David’s Biography & The Birth of BrainFocus

David Hesketh, MSc

Neuro-Medical Science & Education

Born to an Anglican priest and his wife on the Niagara Peninsula in Ontario, David was a  curious, gregarious, athletically-inclined lad and he loved singing. His upbringing, he describes as ‘flexible religiosity’ but the life experience of his youth was spiritual, mostly in the outdoors: In a traditional, Canadian canoe.
He was a good student until High School which coincided with his experience of being bullied. His emphasis then became social rather than academic!
Post-high school, saw him working his way toward his goal of $1,000,000 and a Jaguar XJ-12 by the time he was 25 through such ‘careers’ as newspaper management, life insurance sales, gasoline jockeying and dispatching cement trucks.

Realizing his goal was farther than he first imagined, he decided to enrol at Trent University (Peterborough, ON), where he was introduced to the ‘Hippocampus’ (“What’s That!?!”). Upon discovering it as a primary brain area, he jumped headlong into a science degree (Honours BSc, Bio-Psychology), volunteering in many leadership roles in his ‘spare’ time.
His summers were spent working for Parks-Canada and Trent U (in sales). So, by age 25, not only did the $1 million exist only in his mind, his Jaguar looked an awful lot like a Toyota Corolla….
In pursuit of a medical degree, he continued his studies in Neuro-medical science (and ice hockey!)  at McMaster University (Hamilton, ON) serving in student leadership positions there, too.
While in the process of applying to med school, he became a French substitute teacher and his fate as a teacher was sealed. He completed a year-long study in Waldorf Methodology (Toronto) which landed him his first posting in Johannesburg, South Africa. Four years later, he met his 1st wife and shortly after that his son arrived, joyfully ending his prolonged life as a bachelor.
With the dissolution of Apartheid in SA came criminal violence. He took the opportunity to move his family to the safety of Vancouver (BC). Teaching the sciences and undertaking many administrative and leadership roles, he quit smoking and took up triathlons to regain full health. He returned to Johannesburg after this 9-year hiatus.
With 2 more years of classroom teaching under his belt, he launched his own enterprise called BrainFocus. The experiential decommissioning of stress to awaken a person’s higher purpose, and experience of success in achieving that (called happiness!), became David’s mission. Through practical higher brain exercises that bring out the best in human potential, David has shown 100s and 100s how to lower the cost that stress has on so many people’s lives. He currently resides in Toronto, ON.
